Barbour to lobby for railroad
April 24, 2006 12:23 PM

Mississippi Governor Halay Barbour is heading to Capitol Hill to provide much needed reinforcement for his fellow Mississippians Trent Lott and Thad Cochran. From my Townhall Capitol Report blog:

Word on Capitol Hill is that Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour will be on the Hill this week lobbying Rebuplican Senators for the now infamous Railroad to Nowhere.

Barbour, the former RNC Chairman and top DC lobbyist turned Governor is rumored to make an appearance tomorrow at the weekly Senate Republican policy lunch. The Governor is in town to provide much needed support to his Mississippi Senators Thad Cochran and Trent Lott, who are both under fire for securing the largest earmark ever.

The irony of the situation is thick.

At roughly the same time that Haley Barbour will be lobbying Senate Republicans to maintain support for an earmark that puts the Bridge to Nowhere to shame, a coalition of grassroots conservative groups led by the Club for Growth, Americans for Tax Reform and others will be holding a press conference denouncing the project and the size of the emergency supplemental bill as wasteful and antithetical to true conservative principles of limited government.

One hopes that a few conservative Senators who attend tomorrow's lunch will have the courage to speak up against the boondoggle.

» Charles H. Taylor from Public Figures... Beware
Where was he on the Bridge to Nowhere, when Congress asked for $200 million plus for a worthless bridge? How about the Railroad to Nowhere, currently in front of Congress? Maybe Mr. Taylor should read Porkbusters. [Read More]
